Barraba is a friendly country town of 1200 people, and the community meeting place for a farming district of 2400 people. Pretty much off the beaten track, Barraba offers a relaxed and comfortable alternative to most backpacker destinations. You can do as little or as much as you desire, and Andy can take you to places that no ordinary tourist will ever see.

Andy's Backpackers is situated in the heart of town. A few steps out the front gate and you are in the Main Street where you will find: shops, banks, Post Office, pubs and clubs. A short stroll and you could be enjoying:

......... 18 holes of golf
......... a set or two of tennis
......... in season, a swim in the pool, or a ride on the waterslide

Other activities in the local area include :

........ bushwalking in natural wilderness - Mt. Kaputar is an extinct volcano, with remnant alpine rainforest
........ fossicking for gold and gem stones
........ birdwatching; we have several threatened species that seem to do well in the area
........ paragliding and hangliding
........ superb fishing in the local streams and Splitrock Dam (licence required, available in town)

Meet the Locals

People in Barraba enjoy the freedom of a relaxing country lifestyle. They have the time to stop and say G'day, and love to have a yarn. Being a small country town, Barraba has developed a strong sense of community, and there are many and varied clubs and groups in town. They all enjoy a party, and do so throughout the year.

Open-air concerts and dancing in the main street are a feature of BarrArbor, the Festival of Barraba, held on the first weekend in November each year.
